The incomparable Gidon Kremer and his intrepid Baltic ensemble return to Lincoln Center with their own arrangement of Beethoven’s monumentally imaginative String Quartet Op.131, which the great music scholar Joseph de Marliave called “the direct expression of Beethoven’s most intimate spirit, the channel of inspiration flowing from another sphere.” The evening also features the New York premieres of works by young Russian composer Lera Auerbach and Georgian composer Giya Kancheli, the latter who wrote Silent Prayer in celebration of Kremer’s 60th birthday.

This exclusive event showcases a unique transatlantic collaboration between seemingly disparate artists joined by an impulse towards a captivating, majestic calm. Composer and keyboardist Kjartan Sveinsson of the Icelandic post-rock group Sigur Rós joins forces with some of Europe’s most celebrated choristers for three of his new works, one of which features text by Canadian poet Anne Carson. The evening also comprises works from Riceboy Sleeps, the celebrated ambient creation of Jón Þor “Jónsi” Birgisson, the incandescent voice of Sigur Rós, and his partner, Alex Somers
